A little guide to the swims and how to approach each swim, whilst nothing is set in stone regards tactics they may help the less experienced catch one of the stunning residents that inhabit the water. Anyone who thinks they can cast anywhere and get a bite might want to choose another venue, we have created a venue where you have to do a little work to catch the fish, if you think you have fished clear waters before think again, this water will stun you on how gin clear it actually is, whilst it looks great, the fish esp the originals can be less abiding! But, some of us like a challenge and nothing beats an angler up more knowing he is going to have to work for the fish, still they are more than willing if you get your tactics right. Please do not attempt to fish the lake under gunned tackle wise, every now and then you will hook a fish that will test the gear you have to the limit, and it's a crying shame when anglers are reporting back they lost a big fish due to either line snapping or the fish getting/reaching the snags.

Ferrets Corner (Double Swim)

A popular swim due to the fact you can virtually fish out of your vehicle, as you approach the swim you will notice it is seperated by a large bush, whilst two people can fish this swim it maybe better if you both fish just 2 rods each and keep things pinned down to improve your chances of a pick up, to the left of the swim/bush there is a platueax on the opposite margin which fish love to flash over during the warmer months, a bait placed along side this can produce, if your quiet enough they do get into this swim in numbers during the daytime, to the right there is an island that again has a small platueax/bar coming of it, whilst it does weed up early doors the fish soon clear spots on it, a very underused spot. The far margin does produce fish mainly at night/early morning, whilst there is weed in this swim it does clear the further out you go.

The Point (Double Swim)

An amazing array of choices in this swim, everywhere you look or think of casting to just looks so 'Carpy', to the left of the swim less than a rod length out is a noteable clear patch, fish like to visit this area esp if it's quiet, again to the left is a pallet protruding from the water casting a couple of yards of it does produce esp late autumn/winter, other spots include the near/far margins, again keep things pinned down, they use this area to travel to either Ferrets Corner or the main body of the lake, a little bit of weed in your inside margin but much clearer further out, one of the deepest areas of the lake in this swim with depths up to 22ft depending on water level. A very good winter peg with fish seemingly held up in the bay to the right of the swim on the far margin.

The Green

Comfortable lawn type swim that gives you access to the main body of the lake, The Green is situated roughly in the middle of the lake with fairly uniform depths of around 14-15ft, both near and far bank margins produce though the far margins produce better or are generally more consistent, the nearside margin to the right looks very inviting indeed, the middle of the lake does produce but make sure you find the clear spots in the weed, heavy baiting can work in the middle if the conditions are right, usually it takes a night or two for the fish to move onto the bait. Keep things pinned down if fishing nearside margins.

Birches 1

Newly constructed peg at the back end of last year (2009), we think it will be similar to The Green tactics wise, there is a very inviting margin to the left of the swim, little bit more weed in this swim so pick your spots carefully, plenty of clear spots on the far margin to fish to.

Birches 2

Middle to far margin work well, there is a shallow ledge that extends around 20ft out in this swim fishing on this drop-off can be rewarding, again plenty of weed in this swim but clear spots are there more esp on the far margin, middle can produce again pick your spots carefully, odd silt bed, fairly uniform depths 14-15ft.

Marshes (Double Swim)

Again middle to far margin with some cracking spots on the far margin to the right of the swim, you'll see the bushes, a lead infront of these produces, the weed is evident to the left of the swim but becomes patchy from the middle and to the right, fish do like to show in this swim, be carefull of the sunken tree/pipes to the right hand side margin. Superb silt spot around halfway out to the left of the swim, this spot works well in autumn time as the temp are slowly dropping

End Peg

Least popular probably due to the walk/barrowing of your gear, good margin spots to the left esp if Marshes is free, far bank inbetween the gaps in the bushes work well 15-20metres at the most, to the extreme right of the swim Carp love to get in the snags and can be watched cruising in and out of this area, good floater area. Producing a fair few fish for those that are putting the effort in.

Sands

Comfortable swim with the nearside margins working very well esp to the right of the swim, keep things pinned down and be quiet as the fish can and do get ultra close to the margin, evidence of feeding due to the numerous clear spots in the weed, some very big fish spotted in this swim last autumn time, sussing the spots can be a different thing!! Far margins tight up to the bush line can produce esp in the afternoon, plenty of weed in this one, pick your spots carefully.

The Inbetween
*New Swim*

Situated to the left of Winter Bay, we now have 3 swims on the roadside bank, comfortable swim with some interesting features both near and farside, already producing fish, look for the bay on the far side and the snags, to the left there is a small feature that rises up in the water a classic summer hotspot. Around 13-14ft deep in general though there is a slight raise to the right around halfway out, find it and the fish won't be far away, good all year through swim.

Winter Bay

Excellent swim all year through and it does give you a large area of water to control, the margins work extremely well if your quiet enough, again keep things pinned down, to the right can produce and fish love to show in this area towards the Point Swim, evening times you will notice fish rolling 2/3 rds of the way over usually these are Bream and Tench, bit of weed to the left of the swim but very patchy to the right, far margin inbetween the bushes work but personally the near margin has been more consistent. There is now a path that goes all the way to Sands cut out this winter. Odd bigger fish coming out to the left of the swim as well, do not ignore the main drop off around 2-3 rod lengths out.

General

With it's deep, gin clear and very rich water Silver Lake Carp Fishery does pose a challenge, but with a little time & effort the rewards are there to catch some stunning fish in stunning surroundings, every swim has been carefully thought out and gives you total peace and quiet from other swims, if you want a chill out session with superb looking fish and surroundings then come and 'Be Enchanted' by the magic of Silver Lake.
